Artist Statement
Before I started taking elements of ceramics, I had never worked with clay. During this semester I learned so much about how clay works, how to build a website, and how to manage my time inside and outside of class. For my art show, I decided to create pinch pots with facial expressions. My inspiration came from Pinterest where I saw images of pots with charming, smiling faces. I decided to replicate a similar idea for my show. For my process, I hand built each pots which created texture like bumps, adding quirkiness. Each of my pieces have various proportions to create interest. Every pinch pot has their own expression to add personality. I painted bright, upbeat colors of underglaze in shades of yellow, teal, purple, blue, and green, finishing with a clear glaze on top. In order to add more personality I planted succulents and cacti to appear as hair. This class has been a creative, rewarding experience due to my wonderful teacher and classmates.
